Lucy Mim’s creative process carries with it a vulnerability, particularly when it entails the revelation of personal narratives. She employs painting as a means of both disclosing and enriching her own emotions. Art, for her, is a source of solace, enabling her to access an extraordinary sense of vitality and tranquillity in solitude.
“My inspiration comes from experiences with people and natural spaces that leave thoughtful impressions on my life. I draw on the emotions of these memories and find fulfillment seeing these realised on canvas. I use acrylic paints to capture the squiggly gums, water holes, movement of the weather or surge of the sea. When I paint with nature in mind, I find I am connected more to myself and with the world around me and it is this joyful balance in life that I seek and hope to evoke in others.”
Whether she is depicting the landscapes of the Awabakal country where she lives, the Blue Mountains where she spends time in solace, Lucy Mim’s ability to evoke emotion in each artwork is a moment in time that has been captured and brought to life. The impetus for her painting is not only for the drive to create, but also as a means of belonging and finding completeness.
